See how it works?

*
It works like this: Jay Rockefeller denounces Howard Dean as "irresponsible" for suggesting that lousy HCR legislation be scrapped, but he doesn't denounce Joseph Lieberman (King of the United States) as irresponsible for aggressively acting to scrap the HCR legislation unless Rockefeller's public option was removed from the language.

Sure, Jay is upset, he confesses. But that doesn't mean "...I take my football, and run home and sulk, and complain, or hold out for $100 million for something in West Virginia," he assures us. No, he mans up to it all and... blames Howard Dean.

  1. Dean is going to prevail this time around-- retarded media or not. He's got a strong following in the House and some really pissed off Senators on his side. They'll either pass something useful with a 51% vote in the Senate, or whatever comes out won't have a mandate for people to buy in (the giveaway to insurance cos, so it won't come out period). Like the country itself, there's just too much stupid in Congress.

I'm not so sure about the Petraeus Lieberman thing anymore. Ultimately Republicans hate Lieberman and now Democrats do too. And despite his delusions Petraeus is still too principled to associate with that dim little schmuck. But-- I'm betting you're right about the General this time, if loony teabaggers don't just take over the party first.

  2. Petraeus' future political chances could well turn on either real outcomes, or, the manufactured "consent" of Af/Pak outcomes. Declare victory, go home (maybe bribe, er I mean supply foreign aid, for awhile after to distance any major implosion in the ongoing civil war), and voila a non-tainted political career is born. Part of the calculus (why never "partial differential equations"?) is: The Second Term Question (STQ). From here the crystal ball says it's a political eternity. And yet, if the Conservatives don't get some kind of direction/coalition/plan together I'd say they're sunk absent any major missteps by the current administation. At least, thus far, there's not a cabinet member scandle involving loans, too sweet of deals, etc. every few months -- as has happened in the past. Perhaps telling would be a comparative timeline within a term of misdeeds by appointed officials. Of course to be fair many appointees are STILL held up at confirmation. Your government in "action". Spastic, venal sausage makers on Ritalin (or worse) coming soon to a theatre near you. Hint: get the large popcorn; not for the contents but instead the capacity.
