Wise sayings

This issue of "Wise sayings" was outsourced to Niccolo Machiavelli, from The Prince (1513, p 89, Everyman's Library editon):
And here it should be noted that hatred is acquired as much by good works as by bad ones....

  2. True. By rescuing two American hostages in North Korea, Hillary Clinton's peckerwood husband combined the ruthless calculation of Stalin with the genocidal megalomania of Hitler, the poor judgment of Silvio Berlusconi, and the uncontrollable bloodlust of Richard Speck. Don't you agree?

  3. Well, if anything, perhaps a faint echo of 1, 2 and 4 but certainly not the raw, maniacal, full monty of that particular triptych of tyranny. #3 on the other hand seems a similar suit of clothes but with more Italian flair. As a guess, the calculation was to present a seeming "split and divide" (even as a first couple of state to a man who likes John Wayne movies...Tracy/Hepburn anyone?) while garnering good press. Coming from a broken home Billy C. is well versed in bringing parties togehter (e.g., Mid-East peace agreement...NOT easy, try it sometime). In almost certainly his waining days on earth Dear Leader might have wanted to "do good" or even just be in the news one last time.

  4. LuMac: I feel obligated to reveal that I was totally deadpanning there. I'm sure Clinton did not go to North Korea without the complete approval and support of State, POTUS, and the CIA (replete with espionage devices). My comment was intended to lampoon clowns like John Bolton and their whole pandering-to-terrorists schtick, which is really a self-lampooning bit anyway.

I'm sure that in addition to cajoling Kim to release his prisoners (and they were, regrettably, legitimate prisoners if they strayed into his territory), Hillary's peckerwood husband probably also gave him tips on how to impersonate Elvis and charm the pants off the ladies on either side of the Bamboo Curtain. Seriously.
