ReplyDeleteAnon: evidently Americans are loving this North Star rhetoric. Two years ago I'd have liked to believe that this was all part of a cunning plan to co-opt pet Republican rhetoric and then go on and push a progressive "repair" agenda using that very same rhetoric. As may have become obvious by now, I no longer feel like deluding myself in that regard. I'm sincerely afraid and resigned to the fact that this is just part of the ongoing Reaganista/Clintonista syndrome that has held civic-minded national politics in check for 30 years.
