Anointing his successor

*
Oh, looky who's right at the top of John McCain's list of wise people: why, it's Gen. Dave Petraeus! At least that's what he tells the rich, fancy Orange County preacher man. (Search on "Petraeus" after you click through to the page.)

Please let me know if you think McCain has said or done anything in the past week to make Petraeus/Lieberman '08 seem more farfetched than you already think it is.

  1. and look who was second-- John Lewis. And third, some female business executive. Cool-- a white guy, a black guy, a woman. Like everything else about McCain, this comment was superficial, opportunistic, dishonest, and most of all, meaningless.

  2. Anon: duly noted. But also note who his white guy on his list was, and that it was not Jesus or Joe Lieberman or Rick Warren. Also note that StuporMundi sometimes uses a news headline as an opportunity to offer a witticism that makes a figurative point.

You may have missed StuporMundi's literal point, tucked into the second paragraph, which was that McCain has been spewing high-stakes political and military insanity about Russia's incursion into Georgia for a week now. On one hand, he dramatically advances the narrative about needing, basically, a military leader to run this country starting in 2009. On the other hand, his stupidity and reckless responses to international events gives even more people pause about having him anywhere near the "football." Not even the most hardcore, free-market neocon ideologue really wants commie ICBMs flying around and wrecking their stuff.

StuporMundi apologizes for his careless use of humor in the main post and the inexcusably ambiguous point of it.
