Bye now, payola later

*
A helpful post on TPM indicates that Senator Evan Bayh cannot bring his $13 million home with him when he retires this year, as I thought used to be the case. However, he can ladle the gravy to whomever he likes, subject to Federal Election Commission rules. So at very least, Bayh gets to be a philanthropist and Big Man On Campus --- the campus of "moderate" Democrat copperheads looking for campaign handouts, that is. So a little man of the Senate can now buy himself some big respect. (At least until we find out about the goat that is still behind the curtain.)

  1. Like "loosing" money through gambling with the mob, for a cut you can launder ill gotten gains (so I've only heard, yea, that's the ticket). With $13M combined with clever, and mostly legally trained, political types and assorted cronies, it's probably more a matter of "vehicle" and "cut" rather than yes/no for some kind of personal benefit.

And I dare say he's easily smart enough to not buy the Jag right away.

  2. Anon: another possibility is that he launches some sort of "nonprofit" "nonpartisan" wanker foundation and then donates a huge portion of his bread to that.
